Real Wedding : memories made at a national historic landmark in AL

You are going to love the uniqueness of today's wedding venue - Sloss Furnaces. This is the place where iron was produced for nearly 90 years giving rise to the city of Birmingham, AL. It is now recognized as a National Historic Landmark - imagine making wedding memories at such a historical place. From the web site of Sloss Furnaces . . . "Sloss Furnaces with its web of pipes and tall smokestacks offers us a glimpse into the great industrial past of the South and our nation." Photography is by Angela Blake Photography. And, the bride even made her own crystal bouquet and was finishing it up right before her ceremony.

Real Wedding : good food, good music and good drinks

Today's Real Alabama Wedding of Shelley and Ryan was photographed by Wes Roberts Photography and the bride wrote that her and Ryan are both laid back, down to earth people and wanted a wedding that reflected their personality. They wanted a reception with good food, good music and good drinks so that all ages could enjoy the day with them. I LOVE THIS!!!! This is something that is so important to remember when planning your wedding. Their ceremony was held in the Colonial Chapel of The American Village and is a beautiful recreation of a church built during the civil war era. The barn was one of the main reasons the bride and groom chose this venue. It helped to create the southern, fun, and casual atmosphere they wanted.

With the wedding taking place in August, Shelley wanted to incorporate bright summer colors. So the bridesmaids wore watermelon colored dresses and the guys wore kiwi green ties with tan suits.

The bride made burlap table runners for the guests tables and decorated them with mason jars filled with wildflowers. And, the menu included BBQ pork sliders, chicken tenders, mac and cheese, baked beans, fruit, salad . . . and peach cobbler and ice cream. Shelley said it "would not be a true southern wedding without it!". Ryan requested a peanut butter and chocolate cake and Shelley chose red velvet with cream cheese icing.

Thank you Wes for sharing such a fun wedding with my readers today. To see more from Wes Roberts Photography, please visit his web site
