You're engaged to your soul mate. You're planning your wedding. And the search is on for “location, location, location” -- where to hold the wedding ceremony, the reception, and your wedding night—those special places that will transform your wedding into an affair to remember.
For your ceremony, imagine saying “I do” beneath a gazebo, nestled under the shade of hundred-years-old oak trees. For your reception, envision a secluded courtyard garden in the heart of Savannah's historic district. For your wedding night, dream about a luxury suite in a restored 19th century mansion, appointed with every romantic detail.
Now imagine it all in one “inn-credible” location, a luxurious bed-and-breakfast boutique hotel in Savannah's historic district.
Jane Sales knows just the place for this dream-come-true wedding weekend. As Innkeeper of The Presidents’ Quarters Inn on Savannah's historic Oglethorpe Square, Sales has assisted dozens of wedding couples with all sorts of special touches, from arranging for a minister to perform the ceremony under the inn's gazebo, to working with a florist to decorate the inn's shaded courtyard, to setting up chilled complimentary champagne in the wedding night suite.
“Working with wedding couples is what I love best about being an innkeeper,” says Sales, who radiates Savannah-style hospitality and friendliness. “Getting to know the bride and then helping with all those little details before her wedding. The privilege of hosting the couple on their wedding night and preparing their first breakfast as husband and wife the next morning.” Sales has collaborated with Savannah's most in-demand bridal consultants to coordinate Full House Bookings at Presidents’ Quarters as one of several accommodations for large weddings, such as family groups attending ceremonies at nearby houses of worship. She's also pulled together the details for weddings-for-two, for the bride and groom desiring the most private of celebrations.
The inn was built in 1855 as twin mansions for two prominent Savannah families. The city's rich history and devotion to historic preservation are reflected in the quality of the building's craftsmanship, and in the spacious luxury of each room and suite. The inn's four floors are accessed by two central staircases that are original to the building, and by a full-sized elevator. Wide doorways and hallways, spacious floor plans, and ground floor rooms with wheelchair accessibility features make sure that the entire inn feels welcoming to every guest, allowing them to come and go throughout the inn, visiting other guests’ rooms with ease.
“Our inn has twelve spacious rooms and four suites,” says Sales, as she opens the door to the George Washington Suite for a tour through its high-ceilinged parlor with classic furnishings and granite topped wet bar. "We love hosting destination weddings as a full house booking. There's nothing like the excitement of the couple's family and dearest friends greeting each other as they arrive for the weekend. We're the perfect size to house the groom's family, or the bridesmaids and matron of honor." The inn comfortably holds up to 40 guests.
For out-of-town couples with a select guest list, nothing is simpler and more romantic than letting The Presidents’ Quarters Inn host everything—guest accommodations, the wedding ceremony, reception, and the honeymoon. The boutique hotel's central downtown Savannah location takes the pressure off the bride and groom looking for activities for their guests during the wedding weekend. “We are right next door to the Telfair's Owens-Thomas House if they want a historic house tour, and just around the corner from Broughton Street's boutiques and the theater district,” says Sales. A short walk or pedicab ride leads to Savannah’s finest restaurants and nightclubs for after-the-reception celebrating.
Prepared-to-order breakfast is the specialty of The Presidents’ Quarters Inn, as well as the nightly complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres happy hour. For full house bookings, Sales and the Presidents’ Quarters’ in-house chef will work with the party's lead planner to select menus for the weekend that reflect the bride and groom's hearts desires.
Sales has also served as de-facto bridal consultant for couples who book the boutique hotel's Elopement Package, eager to experience the romance of Savannah out of the limelight. Presidents’ Quarters staff arrange for a wedding officiator (civil or clergy), a signature wedding cake, a keepsake bridal bouquet, in-room wedding night champagne, and in-room honeymoon breakfast.
“There's a special place in my heart for our elopement couples," says Sales. “The romance of just the bride and groom, sometimes accompanied by their parents, or with their best man and maid of honor.” There's nothing “cookie cutter” about these smallest of wedding parties. The Presidents’ Quarters Inn Elopement Package makes sure every detail is unique. “We find out about cake preferences for the Signature Wedding Cake,” says Sales. “We ask about favorite seasonal flowers” for the bouquet.
“I'll never forget my own wedding day, the magic of it,” says Sales. “I want every bride at Presidents’ Quarters to have those kinds of memories thirty years from now. That's my goal. That's what we do
