Lace Doilies and Weddings : a growing trend

Today I wanted to share with you some of the beautiful uses of doilies for weddings. With more and more weddings going vintage, I think we will be seeing many more uses for this delicate lace whether it's with paper or fabric. And, if you're looking for vintage doilies for your own DIY projects, a simple search for "doily" on etsy under the dropdown of "vintage" yielded 80 pages of results when I last checked.

Using doilies as place cards, you can place a small token or favor inside a rolled over doily that is secured with a vintage brooch. And, then write the name of the guest and place the doily on the center of their plate. {from Matthew Mead} Consider coasters at each place setting or as favors. {from The Cozy Chalet} Lace luminaries add a beautiful candle lit glow to your reception. The intricate patterns of doilies glued inside of paper-bag lanterns are illuminated by votive candles. {from Martha Stewart Weddings} Crocheted doilies make for a beautiful handbag. {from Country Living, w/how-to instructions} Beautifully handcrafted wedding invitations with paper doilies. {from Lee & Hamilton Wedding}

Lace doily clutch from Sew Lola, Lacy light luminaries from Martha Stewart Weddings, Doily wrapped votives from Perfect Bound, Doily wrapped favors from Snippet & Ink

And, lastly, doilies don't always have to be white or cream in color, above shows a great example of dying your doilies to a color that matches your event. To see more on how to do this, please visit Eddie Ross' blog.

Vintage is here to stay! The more meaning you can infuse the better, and vintage is a wonderful way to do it. Thanks for the introduction to these dyed doilies, Brenda. Could be so pretty in a pale yellow a dusty pink, a sherbet peach...!

These are great ideas and beautiful photos! Very Vintage & sweet!
